You can't hurry love
Hello! This week I am going to be writing my blog post about the piece, "You Can't Hurry Love," composed by Hooland/ Doizer/ and Holland and was performed by the Supremes. This song debuted in the late 60's in the year 1967. This song reached number one on the American charts along with 4 other consecutive hits done by the Supremes.
Personally I absolutely love this song. It has an upbeat tempo to it that makes you want to dance. The way the structure of the song is composed it also leaves you as the listener wanting more. You are constantly waiting for the last 'B' to come back around again. This is very fitting considering the entire song is about waiting for the love of your life to come to you.
"You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait"
She said, "Love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take"
The lyrics of the song show that the narrator is waiting for love, while the structure of the song makes the listener also wait for the 'B'. This is a very elevated songwriting technique that is not executed very often.
There are many different instruments used to add different layers and elements to the beat of the song. I think they simultaneously also play a key role in creating a tone of happiness and love for the song. The sweet melody and voice of the female singers within this piece also keep the song light.
I know I enjoyed this song very much in class, and I myself wanted to get up and dance to the rhythm that had not been exposed yet in, with its odd changes and upbeat groove. To me, it almost feels like a rendition of some sort of gospel song, but with a pop mix in it. I also think it's awesome how you describe the layers used throughout the song to make it unique from other songs during this era of time.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good song. I am glad we are getting into more modern music. I am starting to recognize some of the music and I am starting to really like it!
