Switched on Pop

This blog post I will be discussing the podcast "Rihanna Party!" on the website Switched on Pop. This podcast focused completely on the artist Rihanna and analyzed her music throughout the years. She is a major musician, having as many number 1 hits as Michael Jackson did. She was named by NPR Music the most influential artist of the 21st century. Over the duration of her career she has grown as a musician and her style has evolved.
Rihanna has a very wide vocal range and has such amazing depth and emotion in her voice. In songs like “Pon De Replay” she explored the lower parts of her range whereas in her “We Found Love” she reaches the northern part of her vocals. Rihanna incorporates many different genres of music within her songs that help her reach many more people and broader audiences. Rihanna was an artist who loved to take musical risks and for the most part she was incredibly successful with it.
She goes quiet for 4 years and does not release any music, but ends the silence with a full album. In this album she is telling a whole story, instead of her usual approach of releasing a single album she is going to display all of the elements of her voice. In the album it shows a less polished, dance beat-like, and radio friendly music. Rihanna does whatever she wants and does not apologize for it for a second. She finally moves away from her dance music era.
